The Wine Route

New Page 1

Head along the wine region route including visits to La Rioja Alta and La Rioja Baja bodegas.

The route includes the following Paradores:

Calahorra: First day

La Rioja is the land of wine, a privileged place where the liquid gold reaches its zenith. Get to know the Bodegas in Lower Rioja around Calahorra such as Torres Librada (Alfaro) or La Bodega Rioja Baja: Bodegas Viña Herminia (Aldeanuela del Ebro). A visit to Calahorra and the Bishop's Palace is recommended whilst in town.

Olite: Second day

On approaching Olite and seeing its outline on the horizon, there is a feeling of a lot still to be discovered. The town provides the chance to explore the Palace of the Monarchs of Navarre, Santa María la Real church, San Pedro Apóstol church and the Plaza Carlos III. Discover the world of wine at the Navarre Wine and Vineyard Museum, located in the same beautiful square as the Parador. The Piedemonte, Marco Real and Ochoa Bodegas are also of interest in the town of Olite.

Santo Domingo de la Calzada: Third day

The town of Santo Domingo is an excellent starting point to discover Upper Rioja and its world-famous wine heritage. A visit to the Ontañón Museum-Bodega (Logroño), the Haro Wine Research Centre (Haro), the Wine Culture Museum (Briones) and some of the Bodegas in the area is worthwhile as well as taking the 'Wine Architecture' Route (Gehry, Calatrava, Moneo, etc.). Discover the Exenta Tower, the Cathedral (the High Altarpiece, the Mausoleum of the Saint, the Gallery and the Cloister) at Santo Domingo and San Millán de Yuso and San Millán de Suso monasteries near the town of San Millán de la Cogalla.
